On the 28th November, Alwyn Hamilton, author of Rebel of the Sands and Traitor to the Throne came to Ursuline High. She talked to our year 7 students about her books and how she became an author. She even helped the year 7s create their own world: a futuristic dystopia populated by half-human polar bears. After the talk many eager students stayed behind to meet Ms Hamilton and by her books. After the talk, Ms Hamilton mentioned how impressed she was by the students’ intelligence and willingness to engage in the activities. She was especially impressed with one girl’s knowledge of the legend of Sinbad, one of the Arabic myths which inspired her novels. Ms Hamilton’s high esteem for our students was clearly reciprocal, because since the talk her books have been flying off our shelves.

On behalf of the staff and students at Ursuline we would like to thank Alwyn Hamilton for her visit, and wish her every success with her new book Traitor to the Throne and her American release tour.

If you would like to purchase either of the books, they can be bought from the Kew Bookshop (1-2 Station Approach, Richmond TW9 3QB), who were instrumental in the organisation of the visit, or from any other good bookshop.

Alwyn Hamilton is the author of the young adult book Rebel of the Sands. Hamilton was born in Toronto and had lived in Europe and Canada before her parents decided to settle in France. She grew up in Beaune a small town in France before moving to England to study History of Art at King's College in Cambridge University. She later moved back to France for work after graduation. She currently lives in London.
