As we celebrate our 125th anniversary this year, below is a reflection of the events we have held so far in commemoration!

Joint Production of Evita at Epsom Playhouse

In March we were delighted to stage the musical Evita at Epsom Playhouse, It was an amazing production, part of the celebration of the 125th Anniversaries of Ursuline High School and Wimbledon College. The musical was performed by students from Year 8 to Year 13, featuring some of the best-loved songs in musical theatre, including Dont Cry for Me Argentina and Another Suitcase in Another Hall.

Celebrating 125 Years of Excellent Education at the House of Lords

We are extremely grateful to Baroness Margaret McDonagh for hosting an incredible reception at the House of Lords to celebrate 125 years of excellent Catholic Education for girls here at the Ursuline High School. The event was held to thank the very many, many people whose hard work has made the Ursuline the outstanding school it is today; Ursuline Sisters, priests and the Diocese, previous Headteachers, Governors, senior leaders, Local Authority Councillors and leaders, our local MPs Stephen Hammond and Siobhain Mc Donagh and members of the Parents’ Association. Guests heard speeches from Baroness McDonagh, Ms Waters and students leaders about the incredible importance of such excellent education for girls today.

We were also treated to a surprise tour, encompassing the history of the House of Lords!

St Cecilia Concert

In November, pupils from Ursuline High School and Wimbledon College came together at St John’s Smith Square in a joint concert as part of our 125th Anniversary celebrations. The concert featured a chronological programme of works from each of the 13 decades since the two schools’ foundation, starting with Tchaikovsky’s Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, working through musical theatre, Jazz and minimalism and ending with contemporary composer Anna Clyne’s Night Ferry.

Pupils from across the whole school participated, with performances from the Y7 Choir, Chamber Choir and Senior Orchestra. With as many as 100 pupils on stage during Gershwin’s Summertime, pupils were professional and enthusiastic throughout and great representatives of the school. Many thanks to the music departments and staff from both schools involved to make this wonderful evening a success.
